Delivering health to India’s 1.2 billion people efficiently has always had many
viewpoints, and in a healthcare deficient market like India almost every solution
is useful. The sector may contribute 6% of the GDP, and be one of the largest employers
in the country, but healthcare is much more than just a number.
The rising population, increasing disposable income, increasing lifestyle related
health issues, cheaper treatment costs, thrust in medical tourism, improving health
insurance penetration, government initiatives and focus on public private partnership
(PPP) models are the major driving factors for the rapid growth in Indian Health
Sector.
However, India’s booming population- one of the prime drivers of growth in the healthcare
sector is likely to be the most acute challenge for health sector in term of providing
them economic, adequate and expected medical facilities. Currently, 1.2 billion
populations of the country is increasing with 2% annual rate. By 2030, India is
expected to surpass China as the world’s most populous nation. By 2050, the population
is projected to reach 1.6 billion.
Most Indian metros have hospitals with world-class infrastructure, processes and
outcomes. However, 70% of the healthcare infrastructure is confined to the top 20
cities of India. In order to reach the remaining population, innovations both in
healthcare products and delivery are required.
With the objective of bringing inclusiveness in health sector growth, IBCHAM (Indian
Business Chamber) has decided to constitute a separate and dedicated National
Council for Health Care & Medical Science to take up the emerging challenges
& opportunity to achieve innovation, differentiation and profits along with take
care the interest of all section of society particularly the most vulnerable society
of our nation.
We are sure that IBCHAM’s (Indian Business Chamber) innovative and pragmatic initiatives
will assist substantially in redefine the growth and services of country’s second
largest service employer.
